What is DICE?

Dice is a collaboration between three friends: Kyle Downes, Eric Meeks and Drew Mitchell. After working together for several months on the original documentary web series In Store Designer we all felt it was time to try our hands at a narrative drama series. Although without any real budget the three friends decided to each pitch in $100 for a combined budget of $300. Surely this would be plenty of money for a hit web series and thus DICE was born. Written by Kyle Downes, Produced by Drew Mitchell and Directed by Eric Meeks the all star team decided that 3 months, from concept to completion, was all the time need to pull off a first season.

Not concerned with form over function the team made numerous trips to Home Depot to build many of the rigs used on DICE out of simple PVC pipe and a little help from our favorite site Instructables.com. Sound rigs, camera rigs, a slate all made for handfuls of dollars to just get the job done. We even had the director Eric Meeks riding a longboard skateboard as a camera dolly. After many 12 hour days the project was finally completed on schedule and on budget.

When starting the project we had one goal in mind: finish the project. By the end of the project we wanted to show people what was truly possible in the world of web series without having a budget the size of Bannen Way. Sure it has some rough edges, but that’s what web series are all about.

When is DICE?

Dice is going to be released every Monday in May. Simple enough, 5 Mondays, 5 episodes = 1 full season.

What’s next for DICE?

During the creation of this series Drew, Eric and Kyle decided to form a production company called DEK’d Out Productions. The idea was to formalize our efforts to make it easier to create more projects in the future. Hopefully by showing our abilities with the first season of DICE we will seek to partner with someone for Season 2 to garner a budget of slightly more than $300 to really give the series the production value it deserves. We have already begun preliminary work on the second season of DICE, along with more episodes of our other web series In Store Designer and a third currently untitled project about the apocolypse. So stay tuned for more exciting projects from DEK’d Out in the near future.
